Description:
Twelve Months of Fruits was published in 1732 by Robert Furber, an English
nurseryman who two years previously commissioned a similar and very successful
series, Twelve Months of Flowers. Furber selected 364 varieties of fruits,
grouped them according to the month his London patrons could expect them to
ripen in a garden or greenhouse, and identified each one with its botanical name
so that the proper seed or plant could be purchased. This design is interpreted
from a set of 18th century prints in the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation
Collection.
